Don't we all wish we could go back in time and drive like crazy in the hill streets of San Francisco next to Steve McQueen?
Well from sunglasses to watches idolizing Steve McQueen, Ford hasn't fallen behind in bringing us another reason to go back and watch those incredible rush movies of the 60's. The roar and the burn always warms my heart, but the thing I could never forget about those movies were the pony cars.
In the film "Bullitt" by Peter Yates, the infamous Steve McQueen plays the role of a San Francisco PD detective, the movie takes us on a journey with bullets and carchases like never seen before at the time.
Half way through the movie, you can see a Black Dodge Charger and an Island Green Mustang Bullitt go head to head in the city of San Francisco. Both cars, scream through the streets, giving us turn by turn excitement and with the excellent camera use, the cars seem to take over as the main characters of the film. Good vs. Bad. Ford vs. Dodge. A rivalry that has lasted nearly a century.
Ultimately as Mr. McQueen defeats the bad guys (because why wouldn't he? Its freaking Steve McQueen), we are left to wonder what it would take to own a Bullitt Mustang, heck at least drive one.
Ford spared no detail with the 2018/19 remake of the Bullitt, pushing 480 HP with some incredible tech advancements in handling and performance, you would be rolling the streets of San Francisco or the roads of the Tucson Mountains and be careless of the world. However, unless you own one, that is nearly impossible.
So the next best thing is to admire this beautiful four leaf clover, perhaps with dark tinted windows, black glossy 20in wheels, and a roaring exhaust downshifting or accelerating around your neighborhood. Wondering if McQueen is the one inside still driving.
The Bullitt is a must have Americana.
