We are all guilty of trying to have too much fun driving in wet roads and not being extra careful when it rains. Did you know there are a few things you should do in order to be a little safer on the road? The holidays are here and we want you to make it home safe to your loved ones, here are a few tips you can share with your friends and family. Enjoy!
1. TURN YOUR HEADLIGHTS ON while you are diving, visibility is low and other people won't always see you. Having your headlights on increases your ability to react to moving or halted vehicles and pedestrians crossing the street. Having your lights on also increases your visibility.
2. KEEP A LONGER DISTANCE between you and the cars in front of you. The wet roads can increase the distance it takes for your car, no matter how big or small, to come to a full stop. Pressing your breaks too hard can result in sliding or skidding thus resulting in a collision and possibly injury, be more cautious with your breaks and distance.
3. GET YOUR WINDSHIELD WIPERS REPLACED if they are damaged or cracked, you won't pay more than $20 for replacing both of them, when they are too damaged they can cause more harm than good. Should only take a few minutes to install and any dealeship or shop will gladly help you find the right size for your car or truck.
4. STAY AWAY FROM WASHES AND STANDING WATER, they are more dangerous than they seem. All of us here at Holmes Tuttle Ford Lincoln can't emphasize enough how important it is to understand the limitations of your vehicle. Washes are very common all over Tucson and the sorrounding ares, cars that are dragged by a wash are also common and very dangerous. If a wash is preventing you from getting to your destination, find an alternate route or wait until the wash clears, its better and safer to be patient and smart and its not worth the risk. Standing water can have potholes that may damage your wheels and tires, don't be fooled by the splash, its not worth the cash.
Please drive safe, you will make it there.
